The Africa Prize for Engineering Innovation aims to stimulate, celebrate and reward innovation and entrepreneurship in sub-Saharan Africa and applications are now OPEN for the £25,000 prize! Watch the video below.
The Royal Academy of Engineering is awarding the Africa Prize for Engineering Innovation for the third year running! The prize aims to stimulate, celebrate and reward innovation and entrepreneurship in sub-Saharan Africa. Applications are invited from engineers living and working in sub-Saharan Africa, who have developed innovations that can provide scalable solutions to local challenges. Engineers from all engineering disciplines are invited to enter. Shortlisted applicants will receive a six-month package of tailored support to help them achieve commercial success from their innovation. The overall winner of the GBP 25,000 prize will be announced at a high-profile event in May 2017.
Last year, Cameroon’s Arthur Zang won with his invention, Cardio-Pad. Cameroon is a country with only around 50 cardiologists among a 20 million strong population. The Cardio-Pad is a tablet computer device that can take heart readings in remote areas and send the results to heart specialists based anywhere via mobile networks. Already being sold to medical centres in Gabon, Nepal and India, the Cardio-Pad enables feedback from specialists within 20 minutes
